I guess I owe y’all an update. I haven’t been writing much because things have been swell here in Jenland. Overly swell, in fact. I can’t think of much to write about that won’t make my readers want to retch, but I’ll try.

Work has been absolutely fantastic. Busy, of course, but I’ve been able to go on a lot of school visits in the last week, which are always fun. I talked mostly about non-fiction books involving parasites and gross facts. I think the boys especially enjoyed my booktalks.

Yesterday morning when I reached for my wallet to pay for my coffee & muffin I was told my money wasn’t any good: a gentleman had come in not 5 mintues earlier and given the cafe $40 to cover the next $40 worth of goods purchased. How lovely! I wrote my benefactor a nice post-it note and stuck it on the counter. I told the class I visited that day that they needed to be sure and do a mitzvah that afternoon in light of my cheerful morning experience.

Thanksgiving is fast approaching and I’m excited to see my family down at the coast. I wish Sky could come with me and be welcomed to the oddball fold, but he’s got his own family plans. Sky is S. which means he’s now important enough to go from a mysterious initial to a full name. Let’s all give him a round of congratulatory applause. Give me some while you’re at it, because I’m damn smitten and happy about the whole thing.

Jaime visited this last weekend and it was lovely. We ate donuts and walked around in the rain and got tattoos. Pictures are forthcoming, I promise. Now I feel like I really and truly live here since Jaime’s seen the place and had a presence here.

I think that’s all for now. Seattle is so lovely – wind is making the remaining yellow and orange leaves dance off the trees and we’ve had two days in a row of snappy sunshine. I finally got some rain boots (frog ones, of course) so I’m ready for the rain to begin again in a day or two.
