The Deafening Roar of Freedom

When I heard a terrible roar and felt a window jiggling shake this morning I immediately rolled off my bed and onto the floor next to it. Then I lauged, because my cats were right down there with me, under the bed. I realized this was not a 7.0 earthquake and was, instead, another fond memory from San Francisco – the Blue Angels.

I used to hate the weeks leading up to a Blue Angels show in San Francisco, because I lived at the top of the hill near the wharf and they would zoom around seemingly 3 feet above my ceiling as they practiced manuevers. I joked that I would move somewhere where the dreaded Angels couldn’t find me.

I haven’t always hated them.  When I was a little girl my grandpa, who was an engineer at Boeing, used to take me to see the crazy planes flipping and rolling. My grandpa used to build his own planes out of kits in his backyard – I think he built about 4 all together. He loved flying and thought the Angels were amazing. I remember being scared but also thrilled to be hanging out with my grandpa.

I walked into work this morning and when I closed the door the deafening roar faded. A coworker asked “So how are you enjoying the sounds of freedom?” which made everyone laugh. Tell it to my cats. I don’t think they feel the freedom as they are huddled under my bed with big kitty eyes. I need to make sure to give them extra loving tonight.

I’m not a fan of the Blue Angels. I’m always thinking: are they trying to entertain us or frighten us? Because they are scary to me. I’m with your cats on this one.

Okay, this post is way old news–I’m behind on your blog because it keeps getting booted off my Bloglines. (What’s up with that? Bloglines always keeps the ones I never actually read.)

Anyway, the point: I HATE the dumb Blue Angels. Seriously. I’m going to beat them up.
