Yo! Gabba Gabba

Sky and I are sharing the couch on a rainy Monday morning. This is an extraordinary event – usually Monday mornings we’re at work by now, but I’ve got weird hours today and Sky is taking some comp time from working all weekend. We’ve got cats, coffee, a blanket, comic books, and toast. Life is good at 10:44am on August 20, 2007.

While perusing my regular morning sites, I found a post about a new Nick Jr. show called YO! GABBA GABBA. The new show (premiering today) features live action monsters (a la Teletubbies), a host named DJ Lance Rock (dressed like it’s 1983), lots of electronic music, and guest spots from the likes of Biz Markie and the Shins. Assorted bloggers are wondering outloud about the similarities between adult rave and toddler culture. Like this is news! A sugared up 3-year-old has more in common with a 21-year-old on E than with anyone else, in my opinion. Loud, primary colored clothing? Check. Desire to dance in a way that seems very dramatic to themselves but seems more like enthusiastic flailing to everyone else? Check. Propensity to become totally entranced by drum beats and/or sparkly graphics? Check.

This show looks pretty rad – I wish it was around when I was a tot.

Sounds like a show version of Baby Loves Disco… toddler day at the club, for real… oddly (or scarily) enough, they find it necessary to state on their web site that one *must* have a child in tow to gain entrance…
