Moving, Movies, Meow

Moving
I’m half-buried in boxes, but otherwise doing O.K. Toasters and books are keeping close company on my floors as I tetris boxes full of junk. Not as much junk as usual, though – I came up with 4 large garbage bags full of stuff for Goodwill. That’s quite a feat for a girl who saves notes from the 2nd grade (which I did not give to Goodwill, no-sir-ee-bob).

Movies
No Country For Old Men – FANtastic. I held my breath for 70% of the film, as I’m not very good at being in suspense. Javier Bardem was eerie and disturbing but also strangely sexy. Yes, I just said the man with the bowl haircut and a captive bolt pistol was sexy. But it’s a very wrong sort of sexy. The film was true to the book, which means there was no fairytale ending which I always love to see – nothing makes me happier than a movie that ends when it ought (see also: Before Sunset) and doesn’t try to wrap things up tidily. People stood around in the theatre talking for a long time after the film – I loved that.

I’m Not There – I used to hate Bob Dylan. I thought his voice was terrible and I would make my dad play Bob Dylan tapes on the boombox when we were out camping in order to keep bears away from our tent. As I’ve grown I’ve learned to love Dylan, and this movie is a movie for someone who loves Dylan. I’m not saying you won’t find it interesting if you don’t love him, but it will definitely help. Great camerawork, if it did drag a bit in some parts.

The Witches of Eastwick – I’d never seen this before, so we got it from the library. Not even good on 4x speed, which usually peps up a bad movie.

Meow
The cats are confused. There’s not a lot of furniture left and there are a lot of boxes. They’re going to be at Sky’s with me for two weeks, then carted off to their third and final (well, hopefully not FINAL) living space in mid-December. They are brave cats. I feel for them. This can’t be fun, and I wish I could fast-forward it for them.
