A Week of Kindness

You know, I try not to wax too poetic on this blog about Sky. I’m a little bit superstitous about such things, and I just don’t tend to share my lovey-dovey feelings very often (at least, not with anyone other than the lovey-dovey recipient). That said, Sky came home with a spontaneous gift last night that made me downright gleeful.

Max Ernst’s Une Semaine de Bonté is a surrealist work made up entirely of collages. Rumor has it he took a huge suitcase full of old newspaper clippings with him to Italy and “wrote” this book over the course of a debaucherous weekend. Ernst is one of my favorite Dadadists/Surrealists. I’ve picked up this Dover edition plenty of times, but always talked myself out of buying it.

We get each other little odds and ends throughout the year, but this is just the best kind of gift: Sky had no idea I’d pondered buying this a hundred times, and just bought it on a whim thinking it was something I would dig. I dig the the book and I dig the dude.
