Social Butterflyers

It’s been a busy couple of weeks in the Lanigan-Durchslag-Robinson (?) household. We’ve had visitors from near and from far, both family and friends. There was an awful, everlasting cold thrown in there, too.

Things are starting to slow down a bit, though, which is nice. We’ve still got BBQs and cocktail parties and a mishmash of other stuff in the next few days, but mostly we’ve got free time to spend by ourselves and with each other which is rad.

I forgot to mention here that we went camping a few weekends ago. It was so so great. We got a camping spot up at Deer Park which is atop a really steep dirt road. It was a no-reservations, “primitive” camping spot, so were weren’t sure we’d be able to get a spot. However, halfway up the steep dirt road we passed a park ranger who told us spot #13 was still available. We hightailed it and pulled into the camp spot beating out some less lucky people who were stuck in the loops looking at other spots. Thank you, park ranger!

Our Lucky # 13 overlooked a meadow, and we had a lot of deer friends to keep us company. We hiked, made yummy food, napped, read in the grass, and watched the moon rise. We also did some hiking, although we got suckered into an “easy” trail that involved fording a raging river. We pansied out and only later saw the sign at the trailhead (on our way back to the car) that read: DANGER! River is not crossable at this time due to snow melt. Do not attempt to ford river.” I blame this on the fact that I never assume I’m doing anything that would require a DANGER sign. Oh well. We wore in my new pair of hiking boots and had a grand time.

MMmm oh what else is happening? I’m cranky about the recent lapse into Februaryish weather, but I’m holding out for that lovely August and September weather that I know must be on its way.
