Why Don’t You Hit Me With Your Best Shot?

I was driving to work this morning and Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” came on the radio.

I immediately delved into this fantasy world in which I was a single career gal and it was 1986 and I was headed to an interview in my power suit. I was singing along to the song (in my fantasy, not in real life – I was too tired to sing this morning) and imagining how I would march into the interview and totally wow them. I’m not sure where this image comes from — I’m thinking maybe I heard that song when I was little and concoted this idea of how that song would apply to an adult life.

Thinking about that dumped me into the 80s and I remembered that my mom always blared “I’m So Excited” by the Pointer Sisters when she did aerobics in the living room. I hear that song, even the beat, and I think: AEROBICS.

Cancer is still the word of the day (minute, second, week, etc;); it’s exhausting to be sad 24 hours a day, so I’m taking comfort in small joys like commuter mini-fantasies.

So what song do you connect with a vivid memory and/or fantasy?
