Tuesday morning we woke up at the crack of and shuffled down to the airport, half asleep. We stopped at the Dish D’lish place in SeaTac because I’m a sucker for their candy. I bought a bag of the “Tiffany Caramel Eggs” last time I flew down to SF and ate them like a crack fiend – they are these super smokey caramels with a layer of chocolate covered in a candy shell. Whew. So we bought a bag to see me through our 5 hour flight to New York.
Our flight was pretty non-eventful. Long.
We landed around 3pm and headed straight to our home base, East Village Bed & Coffee (a great place to stay, by the way). We dropped our stuff off and went straight to Katz’s and got some kosher food in us. It was cold! Next we walked a few blocks to attend a weekly event co-hosted by our friend Erin, True Story: The KBG Nonfiction Reading Series. Melanie Thernstrom spoke about chronic pain and Daniel Menaker on the Art of Conversation. Both were very interesting, as was the Q&A.
Next up were some delicious snacks at @ Caracas Arepa Bar, then we hoofed it over to the West Village and met Erin’s friend Anna at a nice little bar. She told us all about being a regular at the bar, and how she attained the status. She was delightful and we all had nice little evening.
After we said goodnight, we walked back to the LES, giddy with the cold and gin. We made a pit stop for some greasy pizza (our goal was to eat small meals often to get the most variety) and even stopped in a hat store that was open @ 1am.
We got home and collapsed on our bed and fought to fall asleep — New York makes me feel like I want to stay up until 4 am every night.
