I made this last night, and it kind of blew my mind. Totally worth it. It took about 5 hours to make, overall: crust from scratch + pastry cream was a big deal, but GOD IT WAS AMAZING. I still have a little bit left (sent most of it with my parents to share with my sister). I’m fantasizing about it right this second. I got the recipe from the Tartine cookbook, and I’m going to write a proper post about that in a bit.
NOTE: Mine did not look nearly this fancy, but this is how I remember first experiencing one — waiting in line on a hot day w/ Jaime @ Tartine.
